A slotted screwdriver would work. If you can run the screwdriver down the length of the groove in the clutch disc and it slides all the way back into the crankshaft, you know you are lined up. A thick feeler gauge or narrow putty knife would work as well, I stabbed my last clutch without an alignment plug.
